The following question will be explored: To allow the SNEC to use the Investment portion of the Trust Fund, to invest in rental property. This is focued on purchasing land/housing near AUC for use by S.L.A. day students. Aprox. 1.5 million would be spent in the purchase and remodeling of two of the houses. The other houses would be available for rent to the staff and students of A.U.C. All rent going back to the Trust Fund. The Trust Fund would own the land and buildings. Are you for it? Are you against it So stop in and talk it over with your fellow Alumni. Time for us to hear YOUR VOICE.... Tim PS,,click here to take a survey: Sign Time: Thu November 02 2000 |

| Visitor's Name: Tim Shriver Homepage URL: Webmaster State/Country: WI/USA Class of 1977 Comments: Here is a portion of an email to me from the President of the Southern New England Conference of Seventh Day Adventists concerning the Secondary Education Trust fund and the meeting this November 5th: "As to proposed changes . . . none are being proposed for November 5. The action will only involve partial investment in income producing real estate instead of completely in stocks and bonds. It will also be proposed that a portion of the real estate be used for dormitories for up to 40 students to attend South Lancaster Academy. These dormitories will also be rented from the Secondary Education Trust Fund. The scholarship program from the proceeds of the Trust Fund is not being changed. There will be open discussion regarding some of the questions that have been asked regarding the current scholarship plan. If any change is made it will be based on study conducted by the Conference Executive Committee and brought to the constituent delegates at a future meeting. There is a regular session planned for May, 2001. Thanks, again, for your interest in what happens here in Southern New England. Halvard Thomsen President" If I also remember correctly from a phone conversation with Mr. Thomsen the remaining housing and land purchased could be rented to A.U.C. staff and students. Only two of the houses currently on the land would be used for S.L.A.. 50% of the Trust Fund is used for scholarships and 50% for investment. The cash used to purchase and remodel the housing (1.5 million) would come from the investment side of the fund. Please let us know what you think of this. Are you for it or not? The news on the webpage has been intriguing, too. Perhaps this would be worth publishing a general mailing to all alumni - informing as many as possible about. At first I thought "I'm not especially interested in this SNEC business" But perhaps it was the one line: "The name of Pioneer Valley Academy attached to some or all of the projects this fund pays for. After all, it all came from the sale of P.V.A." That altered my perspective a degree. Oh - one last item - a few of us in Florida are considering a mini-reunion . . . is Chris Smith still handling the database? | Visitor's Name: Tim Shriver Homepage URL: Webmaster State/Country: WI/USA Class of 1977 Comments: Here is what the meeting is about on the 5th of Noevmber: A.The spending of 1.5 million to puchase land across the street from A.U.C.. The houses on this land would be redone. Two for housing day students for S.L.A. and the rest for A.U.C. staff and students. The rent collected would go back to the trust fund. B. To see whom would be in favor of altering the current scholarship guidlines. Right now, any student in the SNEC's area and are members of a S.D.A. church can recieve financial help. All students getting the same amount of financial assistance. The change would be to have some scholarships available to students that need more financial assistance, then the rest.(Scholarships are not full scholarships, just financial help) C. To have scholarships for non SNEC residents that send their children to SNEC schools and academies. D. To allow the fund to be used to help some 9-10 grade programs and for startups of 9-10 grade programs within the SNEC. E. And to open up discussion on further changes to ths fund. Right now the fund is split this way: 50% is reinvested 50% is used for scholarships I would like to see the following added to the fund: 1. The name of Pioneer Valley Academy attached to some or all of the projects this fund pays for. After all, it all came from the sale of P.V.A. 2. That PVA alumni children, regardless of location, have a scholarship program available to them. In or out of the SNEC education system.(must still be a S.D.A. School or Academy) As alumni are scattered all over the world. 3. That the $250.00 that the Alumni Assc. gets per year, be grealty increased. This comes from that fund according to the treasurer for the SNEC. 4. To insure the fund continues to grow and help those that need it the most. I need the Alumni's feed back on this. Either email me at webmaster@pvaalumni.com or stop in to "Joint Rec" on Saturday nights, 8pm CST. All this information came from a phone call with Halvard Thomsen, President of the SNEC and Tom Verrill, Treasurer for the SNEC this past Monday. As of August, the fund had a balance of around 5 million dollars. With a starting balance of 2.5 million when the fund was founded. I will post any new information that I get as soon as I get it. They gave me some of the details on what this meeting will be about. A. The fund is from the the sale of PVA and has almost doubled in value. B. It has been providing funds for students in the SNEC for school costs. They also indicated to me what the proposed changes to the fund would be. Those proposed changes will be posted on the website as soon as the Alumni Board has had a chance to look them over and form an opinion to present to the Alumni. I am sure that this will be something that everyone will want to see and express an opinion on. But as an Alumni, we need to be clear with our voice and sound in our judgement. It is a large sum of money that needs to be secure for future use and it use planned wisely. Stay tuned for more! Tim Sign Time: Mon October 16 2000 |

Is there an intent that we need to be concerned about? I for one do not have a high opinion of how the SNEC has handled their educational system. In a time when private schools are being built and favored amoung folks that can afford them, the S.D.A. system seems unable to keep what they have. I had NEW CLOTHES for the new school year, and was wearing my favorites, a navy blue skirt (we HAD to wear skirts or dresses, remember?!) and a madras plaid long-sleeved shirt with ruffle cuffs. Nadine Haring came up behind me, put her hands over my eyes and said, "Guess who?" When I quickly reached up to pull her hands off my eyes and find out who it was, I felt the back of my shirt split from the middle of my back up to the neck and nearly down to my waist! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but I must have laughed, because Nadine and I remained good friends! He was sleeping and I hated to wake him, for I'm sure he was still very tired from his operation. But, I had driven about an hour to get there and I know he would have wanted to be woken up, so I did. I kissed him for everyone, and brought greetings from you all. He was thrilled. He showed me his leg....all stapled shut and fragile looking. He also said he has suffered a stroke...his memory was quite remarkable considering everything!!! Once we got to talking about PVA he perked up and remembered lots of people and happenings and asked about the reunion. He was in a four person room. One man is blind. We talked for a little more than an hour, and I could tell he would've liked to visit longer. He said he would love to hear from everyone, for the days contain long hours and the cards or letters would be cheerful. He can have phone calls...just let it ring so he can get to it...or find it...sometimes it's where he can't reach it. His number is posted in one of my previous notes. He is 85.... His house needed painting, and his church went over and did it for them... It seems as though the chances of him going home may not be to good. He doesn't know that for sure really, yet I think he does...........he was so greatful for my visit and mentioned thanks for taking the time to visit...it was a harder visit then I had planned...tears came when I left and I was left with another lesson from one of our teachers... Again, the address etc. is on a previous note...take a moment...please..moments are ALL we have... love to all, Joy Sign Time: August 15 2000 at 15:35:16 |

I was really looking forward to going and seeing my old classmates and teachers not to mention that I would have loved to visit the schoolgrounds again. I sifted through some of the pictures and saw some familiar faces. You guys looked like you had a really fun time. Maybe the next time for me. Work committments and single fatherhood keep me pretty busy and living way down here in Florida didn't make it any easier to attend. Hi to all my friends and classmates of '77. Tim....you are doing a fantastic job keeping this website moving and growing! Not that they may remember me....but if someone visits Mr. and Mrs. Wolcott ...could you kiss them on the forehead and tell him it's from me? Take care everyone! So, if folks would send me what state they are in I would be glad to add that information. The main reason for the new "Email Only" directory was the software that was used to import the list into my database. Also to "somewhat" automate the email listing. We will have a "snail mail" Alumni Directory soon. If folks would like to be listed their, please send me an email with that information. For other information, such as phone numbers can bet retrieved via email or snail mail. We are lso attempting to somewhat combine the Alumni database and the Website database. | Visitor's Name: David Lawrence Homepage URL: Class of: 67 Comments: It's been interesting & fun reading alot of the comments from several people I remember. I notice that a few names in the alumni directory also give actual street or mailing addresses, but most do not. For instance mine does not, but I know that I have provided that information. What makes the difference as to whether it's there or not. I personally would like to know where some of my friends and classmates are located (you can't tell from the e-mail addresses) If they don't wish to have their actual addresses shown perhaps it would at least be permissable to show what state they now reside in. Just a suggestion. Dave Lawrence 15207 Vista Drive Caldwell, ID 83607 Sign Time: August 08 2000 at 21:22:36 |

I leisurely went through all the reunion photos and latest guest book entries. What great people went to PVA! I am going to write to dear Mr. Wolcott tomorrow. I hated chemistry, too, but he was such a patient man. Him and John Ratzlaff!! I have to say how great it was to "see" so many dear friends at the Reunion. I was not able to be there in person, so viewing these pictures on the net is such a blessing. Mr. and Mrs. Wessman look as terrific as ever. I well remember singing "Eternal Life." It still gives me shivers as I remember singing it. You were an inspiration, Mr. Wessman!! And Mrs. Wessman, you must know that I give you all the credit for being my inspiration to be a secretary. I'm still doing that and love every minute of it. Thank you for that. And Kitty Conley, what a joy to see you again!! Please write to me sometime. I recognized your smile (wish the photos had captions--I don't recognize so many people). But I would know Kitty's smile anywhere!! And Deby Sundin, you were another sight for sore eyes!! Such a sweet college roommate you were to me!! I'm still waiting for that promised e-mail!! Tell me all about your feelings of the Reunion. Doug and Val, it's nice to know you're back together again. And to all those who have made this web site possible, I thank you sincerely. I think a 2002 California Reunion is a terrific idea!! I'm sure there were more. I especially remember the prayer bands on friday night in the night air out front of the dorm. Then waking up to those wonderful sticky buns Sabbath morning...I liked going on tours to sing for other churches and once or twice we went to a prison...a little scarey. I remember someone putting toilet paper all over the faculty shrubs...who was that??? On halloween, I rolled a metal garbage can down the stairs at about 2 am waking up half the dorm...I confess, I confess, ha ha ha..I also put vasiline on the toilets, and seran wrap..only one casulty Joy Cheney I think it was...she slipped off...and we put vasiline on Suzannes face while she slept with rollers on and when she woke up it was everywhere!!! She was NOT happy. We also would turn out the lights and tell scarey stories with a flashlight up against our faces to make us look ghostly.. I hated chemisty class so much, I dropped it with a C, and Mr. Wolcott begged me to stay and try...forget it I said, I switched to home making class....that was a mistake, 'cause I couldn't learn to sew!!!! : ) (STILL can't) Mr. Wolcott is having to possibly have his leg taken off this week, with gangreen.I have asked for an address where he is so we can all send cards. Going to classes was fun, especially if you had a class with Gary Flossmann. He had such a sense of humor. Anyone remember the night we had someone come and speak to us about spirit mediums?? The whole assembly sat so intently, but a few of us saw what looked to be a snake of smoke curl around the speakers head and we were all scared!! It was not a prank...he was still being harrassed by saten...he had once been a medium..and became an Adventist!! | Visitor's Name: Brenda Boynton Steele Homepage URL: Class of: 70 Comments: Hello everyone:) I was very sorry to have to miss our PVA reunion this summer. My husband Duncan and I moved into a new house that week and company from Mexico ( who had never been to New England before) landed here to stay with us the very day the reunion began. They were here for 9 days and loved it. They were able to go to GC in Toronto with my dad Melvin Boynton and my brother Bryce Boynton. Needless to say, most of my time was spent setting up the house to live in and creating the meals for up to 12 ppl. The day they left, my husband's dad (Ernest Steele) arrived. Our house is the last one on top of a 600+ ft hill with a view of 80 miles on a clear day. We are still trying to figure out all the mountain ranges we can see in the distance. One of them is Mount Blue near Camp Lawroweld in Weld, Maine. Our shepherd loves it here and barks at our "welcoming committee" of deer, moose, and birds. What fun the reunion sounds like. I am disappointed to miss it. Please post many pics. It was an honor to be asked to play for Mr. Wessman and for the service itself. Some of my happiest playing was for the touring choir. Learning Russion Picnic for our spring recital. Our trip to NYC and Sheena Anthony's fundraising concert in NYC the spring of 70 are wonderful memories. I have been trying to remember the song "These Are the Hands" I played for her by ear back at school. Oh that I had written at least the chords down. It used to send shivers down my spine when she sang it:) If anyone has found the music please let me know. She had a fabulous voice back then. Thank you to ppl like Karen and Joy etc. who worked so hard for the alumni weekend. Was Joyce Aijala able to be there? My parents attended Dad's 50th at AUC this year and were very impressed by Dennis Farley's enactment of James White. Is Dennis's beard as long as it was? I used to tease him about looking like one of the founders of our church:) As soon as time allows, we will scan in some pics left over from yearbook '70 of banquets, joint rec, etc. I can't seem to find any of my yearbooks so appreciated all the pics here. Congratulations to Doug and Val. What a surprise:) It pays to read the guest book. Does anyone else remember Phil Giddings bringing food to physics class just before lunch and passing it out to the whole class while sitting in the front row and the teacher never knew? How about the time we were in class & someone was working on an extra credit experiment in the lab which blew up. Ashes rained down on us all and we had to escape to the hall. How about when Gary Clifford, Phil Giddings and whoever else applied test tube clamps to the back of the teacher's suit coat which weren't discovered till half way through the next class. Or dropping orange peelings into the cuff of the teacher's trousers as he walked by teaching an outdoor class. How about the extra credit we got by getting up in the middle of the winter's night to look through the telescope. Or Judy Ryder holding classes in the girl's dorm to explain everything we didn't understand from the day's classes. How about our Senior class trip on the island when we rented bicyles and it poured rain. The gears on my bike kept slipping because it was so wet. We couldn't tell the difference between the ppl who went into the ocean and the ones who didn't. Staying at the youth hostel, singing 99 bottles...... as we drove to ?Gay head. The bus breaking down on the way home so we had to cram everyone onto 1 bus. Were we going to a Sox Game? Students in the luggage racks overhead, etc. Food fights in the caf. Hoping that special someone would open the door for you:)) Wonderful teachers and friends for all time. I wouldn't have missed it for anything! Thank you to all who made my life so happy. How about the song we used to sing at assmbly? Does anyone have that? Oops, I'd better hurry before everyone goes to sleep reading this. Update on my life. I teach piano, play for 2 choirs, have taught choir chimes, assist the piano clinician at music clinic (got to see Dave Randall there), taught orchestra bells for the band last year, play for the local Baptist Church Services every summer and whenever needed, and am department head for the organic produce section of my brother's natural food store in Skowhegan, Maine called Spice of Life. I also rotate into any other position there as needed, ordering, dealing with reps, setting up displays, bagging, doing cash register, decorating, etc. Please note the change of e-mail address. I would like to thank all that helped to pull this off and make it one of the most memorable events in my life. I truely enjoyed every single second of it. Each event, each person, each word. To see the "lost in the past" expressions on each face as they walked around the Academy grounds, their children playing on the front lawn, having Mr.& Mrs. "Nick" meet us at the entrance, welcoming us back, is what this was all about. The fine teaching and preaching from Mr. Farley and Mr. Bauer reflected the complex feelings we all have about PVA. The feelings were real and the smiles, hugs and warmth was genuine to all. I am sad that it is over, but excited about what the future holds for the next reunion. Lets not let it fade away, but allow it to grow and spread. As Mr. Wessman says, "FOCUS". My "Focus" is clear. | Visitor's Name: Beverly Edmondson Berendes Homepage URL: Class of: 1973 Comments: What a wonderful experience this reunion was! To sing in the Clarion Choir under the direction of Mr. Wessman was a real moving experience. Renewing friendships and acquaintances from the past was special...knowing that people are meeting the challenges and struggles of life and asking about and remembering those who were not there too. The tour of the PVA campus brought a flood of memories and some good stories were told! Thank you to those who organized this weekend...the Kuntz's, Joy Lamountain Buck, Karen Aijala Carpenter, Tim and Robin Shriver...and others whose names I may have missed or not known. Thank you also to Steve Bauer and Dennis Farley for the thought provoking Sabbath School lesson and sermon. Thank you to those who traveled and took the time to attend the reunion. I missed 2 days of a sailing vacation (well worth it!) to go to the reunion...I'm off to catch up with the rest of the crew now! P.S. This reunion may have been just a little more memorable if Bob Bothelo had shared those 20,000 cans of whipped cream he had in his truck! Sign Time: July 02 2000 at 09:45:02 |

She said "yes" to the big question, on Christmas Eve, and made me the happiest man on the planet. We're getting married on one of those green hills in the middle of Vermont (Brookfield). It's been a long, long time since I've been up there - so asking me for directions will only confuse you. The wedding will be on July 8 at her family's reunion. Dave Young said, "What no invitations - Don't worry we'll crash it anyhow!" Nothing would make us happier, although you might have to bring your own refreshments! I felt instant guilt, so here I am. I'm looking forward to attending the reunion this summer. The last one I attended was in 88. It's hard to believe I only missed two reunions and 12 years slipped past. I haven't done a very good job staying in touch with old classmates. My wife and children are my life as it should be. With the reunion coming up, I'm getting motivated to reconnect. I want to make the most of this reunion. There's just to little precious time for such things. To all old acquiantences please don't be shy. I don't care who was considered popular back in our school days. I'm interested in what's happened in your life. I want your e-mails. I want to talk with you at the reunion. Many of you, like me, will be coming great distances to this event. Some have mixed feelings because they have no claims to fame and are unsure what to say when asked what they've been doing all these years. Some have been through difficult times. Some are not sure that they will meet up with anyone that really cares. I hope no one will feel that way when they see me. Sign Time: May 15 2000 at 00:08:46 |

Richards Jr. Academy in Staunton Virginia where I've lived with my two sons, Erik 9 and Austin 7, for the past 7 years. Prior to that, before taking some time off to raise the boys to school age, I taught at Battle Creek Academy for 10 years and before that Adelphian Academy for 2 years. I presently teach everything from all subjects in 5th/6th grade, my homeroom, up to 9th & 10th grade keyboarding/computer concepts, Phys. Ed. and music classes, specifically handbells, and choir. Would love to hear how things are with other PVA-ers. This is a great site for catching up with the past. Thanks for all the effort it takes to keep this going.
